A password-protected directory or area is a folder which may be accessed only if a username and a password are provided, so no unauthorized individuals could check out its content. This option may be used for the primary folder of a particular website or just for a certain subfolder depending on your requirements. As an example, if you are building a new site and you don't want people to see it prior to it being ready, you have to prohibit the access to it altogether, while if you would like only some people to be able to access certain files, you could password-protect only a particular folder, while the rest of the site may be seen by everybody. Either way, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear in the event that the login details the visitor types in are not right. Even a direct link to a file won't work provided any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Shared Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take just several mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your sites within a shared hosting
account with our company. You won't need to do anything complex - you'll have to choose a domain/subdomain, to pick which folder under it has to be secured, and then to type the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. If a number of people require their own login credentials, there will not be a problem to set up a number of different usernames with access to the exact same folder. All protected folders will appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this option is enabled. If you want to deactivate the security function for any folder, you can disable it from the same exact section of the Control Panel in which you have enabled it.
Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server
account with our company, you will be able to protect any content that you've uploaded through our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it is a part of, so you shall not need to enter any code at any time. You'll only have to pick one of the domains/subdomains that you have in the web hosting account and to determine which folder needs to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You can then type the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you will be good to go. The protection shall be enabled at once, so anyone who attempts to access the newly secured folder shall have to type in the accurate login information. In case various individuals should be able to access the exact same content, you could make a separate username for each.
